9 Best Wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains

The Santa Cruz Mountains are known for their spectacular views, soaring giant redwoods, Loch Lomond Reservoir, farmlands, and biking. But did you know we have excellent wines and wineries? With unique microclimates and soil conditions, this region shows that good wine can be grown in the hills of Santa Cruz.

Here are nine of the best wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

1. Ridge Vineyards, Monte Bello Estate

This is one of the most well-known wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Their wines are made from grapes grown in high-altitude vineyards and are known for their complexity and depth. Monte Bello Estate offers guests an unparalleled opportunity to experience our exceptional single-vineyard wines.

2. Storrs Winery

With a tasting room in Santa Cruz and the farmlands of Corralitos, you have multiple options to taste their wines. Pamela and Stephen Storrs continue to win awards year and year. They focus on Pinot noir and Chardonnay, and it is worth the trip to Corralitos to check out their new tasting facility. While you are out there, grab some lunch at Corralitos Market.

3. Big Basin Vineyards

Big Basin Vineyards is a family-owned winery specializing in Rhone-style wines. Their tasting room is in a picturesque redwood grove, making it a perfect spot for a picnic.

4. Beauregard Vineyards

Beauregard Vineyards is a boutique winery focusing on small-batch production. Their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are highly acclaimed and have won numerous awards.

5. David Bruce Winery

David Bruce Winery has produced wine since the 1960s and is known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their tasting room offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

6. Alfaro Winery

If you are lucky when visiting this beautiful winery, you may just have the owner bring out some delicious homemade pizza. It’s a fun place to find lovely staff, live music, and a good crowd. I suggest trying their Pinot noir.

7. Byington Vineyard and Winery

Byington Vineyard and Winery is located on a hillside and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Their wines are made from grapes grown on the estate, and their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are highly rated.

8. Silver Mountain Vineyards

Focusing on sustainability, Silver Mountain Vineyards produces organic wines. Their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are highly acclaimed and have won numerous awards.

9. Paratage Winery

Partage is a boutique family owned and operated Santa Cruz wine label founded by Sommelier and Restaurateur Mark Bright. Meaning “to share” in French, Partage wines are focused on single vineyard expressions and smaller production to extract the purest and highest quality of the harvest.

The Santa Cruz Mountains are up and coming in the wine world and these nine wineries are worth a visit. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or simply looking for a beautiful place to spend an afternoon, skip the traffic jam on Highway 17 and start your wine tasting adventure!
